Hi,

I'm making a 16-bit inspired bowling adventure game and I'm considering using Genny for the soundtrack.

Are there any good resources online for free instrument downloads?
I want to try to make stuff with lots of strings sounds and I'm having trouble doing it with the preset instruments, and I haven't been very successful in creating my own.

I want to be able to do some guitar and violin sounds like the ones in this song:

Both the twangy slidey guitar and the acoustic chords under it, and the violin that comes later in the song.

I don't need it to sound 100% accurate but at least somewhat sound like those instruments so it's recognizable as an easygoing country tune.

Hey, thanks for joining the forum! I saw the bowling monitor animation you put up and it's awesome, excited that you're thinking of using the plugin!

As for presets... I'm working on making a few banks right now but in the meantime, the easiest way to get new sounds is by using a tool called VGM2PRE: https://vgmrips.net/wiki/Vgm2pre
It basically rips instruments out of existing Genesis tunes, if you find a song you like the sound of you can download the VGM for it here: https://project2612.org/
Then just load the VGM into the tool and it'll export a bunch of files that you should be able to import through GENNY.

You might also be able to get the effect you want by just changing a few LEV knobs on Comix Guitar 01 and Earthworm Banjo.
The LEV 3 knob on the first Comix Guitar basically just works like a distortion knob and a lot of presets work similarly!

I made a sort of easy-going tune not too long ago. Abuse the Comix Bass! It's just an electric bass patch. You can turn down the volume a bit but it helps if you just use it in a slow tempo. I think I tweaked the Earthworm Banjo preset some too to make myself a soft guitar.

Oh, also! The latest version of GENNY has a VGM import function now, so if you find a Genesis song you like the sound of you can download it from https://project2612.org/ and import its instruments into the plugin!
